Goddard Scores Four to Lead Bentley to 4th Straight Win
WALTHAM, Mass. -- Junior midfielder Liz Goddard (Acton/Acton-Boxborough HS) scored four goals for the Falcons and added an assist to lead the Bentley women's lacrosse team to a 20-5 win over Assumption on a rainy Thursday night in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Falcons improved to 5-4 (4-1 NE-10) with their fourth straight win, while the Greyhounds are still looking for their first win of the season at 0-7 (0-4 NE-10).
Bentley jumped out to an early lead and was in control of the entire game. Freshman Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill./Barrington HS) and senior Kellyn Riccitelli (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) each netted a pair of goals before sophomore Shannon Howard (Norfolk) broke through to put Assumption on the board nine minutes into the game. Sophomore Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover/North Andover HS) added the goal that was the eventual game-winner to make it 6-1 with 16:41 to go in the first half. That tally kicked off a stretch of ten unanswered goals for the Falcons that lasted into the beginning of the second half.
Senior Tracey Conboy (Albany, N.Y.) scored three minutes into the second for the Greyhounds and Assumption found an offensive rhythm towards the end of the game, scoring three of the final four goals. Conboy finished with two goals for the Greyhounds, as did Howard, with senior Kristin Ford (Worcester) netting Assumption's other goal midway through the second.
Riccitelli finished with four goals for Bentley and junior Leslie Bullis (Falmouth/Falmouth HS) recorded her first hat trick of the season. Ritchie scored a goal and notched three assists as well. A total of 11 different players scored for the Falcons. While freshman Leah Leavitt (Holliston/Holliston HS) scored her first collegiate goal, Riccitelli moved within seven points of catching the Bentley all-time career scoring record of 179 points set by Lauren Ferraro (2000-02).
Freshman Christina Guglielmo (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven HS) made nine saves to earn the win for the Falcons, while sophomore Nicole Johnson (Shrewsbury) turned away six shots at the other end for the Greyhounds. Bentley outshot Assumption, 37-22, in the contest and held a 26-14 advantage in shots on net, a disparity that was especially pronounced in the first half when the Falcons outshot Assumption by a 27-7 margin.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday when they travel to Springfield to take on American International at noon. The team returns home on Wednesday, hosting Southern Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m.
