Manhattan Races to 6-0 Lead, Holds on to Down Siena
Eastchester, N.Y.- Manhattan raced out to a 6-0 lead and held off a Siena comeback to post an 8-6 MAAC Women's Lacrosse win this afternoon at Eastchester Field. With the win, the Lady Jaspers even their conference record at 2-2 and keep their MAAC Tournament hopes alive.
It seemed as if Manhattan would run away with things in the early going, scoring the game's first six goals to lead, 6-0, with 20:20 to play in the first 30 minutes. Keri Morrison got things going, scoring off a pass from Alicia Psillos just 48 seconds into the game. Jenny Carman earned the next two tallies, the first unassisted, and the second off another assist from Psillos. The teammates switched spots on the fourth goal, with Psillos scoring off a pass from Carman. Brenna Tinari scored an unassisted goal for the fifth tally, before Caralyn Hickey completed the quick start with a goal off a pass from Lauren Civardi.
Siena scored three of the next four goals, with the lone Manhattan tally coming from Tinari, and trailed, 7-3, at the half.
Siena continued to climb back into the game, scoring the first three goals of the second half to pull within a single tally, 7-6, with 12:07 left in the game. Tinari scored an insurance goal with 5:34 to play, with the assist coming from Carman, and played solid defense the rest of the way to emerge with the hard fought win.
Ashley Devins tallied 12 saves (eight in the second half), while allowing just six goals. This marked the fourth straight meeting between the Lady Jaspers and Saints that Devins and the Manhattan defense has held Siena to less than 10 goals (all Manhattan wins).
The Lady Jaspers get back in action and play their final regular season home game on Sunday, April 15, hosting Le Moyne College at Eastchester HS. The game, set to start at 10:00 a.m., will be preceded by a Senior Day ceremony honoring the six Manhattan seniors.

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Siena women's lacrosse team dropped its second straight game losing 8-6 at Manhattan this afternoon. Lady Jaspers senior attacker Brenna Tinari led the way with three goals helping Manhattan (3-9, 2-2) get past the Saints. Six players scored a goal on behalf of Siena (3-8, 2-2) in the losing effort.
The Saints allowed six consecutive unanswered goals over the opening 9:40 of the contest. Eventually, sophomore attacker Ryan Tierney (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) opened up the scoring for Siena as she notched a goal at the 16:06 mark. Stephanie DiMari (Hicksville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy), a sophomore midfielder, connected on a free position shot minutes later cutting the Lady Jaspers advantage to 6-2.
Siena rolled into halftime trailing 7-3. Just 1:09 before the half, Lynn Harkins posted her 14th goal of the season which cut the Saints deficit to four.
Siena carried this momentum into the second half as they managed three straight goals making the score 7-6 with 12:07 remaining. Freshman midfielder Alexandra Kain (Williston Park, N.Y./Mineola) registered the first goal with 25:27 on the clock. Soon thereafter, Amy Schoonmaker (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and Christina Pampalone (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) posted their only scores of the contest.
This would be the closest Siena would get as the Lady Jaspers stingy defense would not allow another goal the rest of the way. Then with 5:34 remaining, Tinari posted an insurance goal to send Manhattan off with a two goal decision.
The Saints return to action on Sunday looking to snap this two-game losing streak. They are scheduled to face-off with Iona at 1:00 p.m. in New Rochelle, N.Y.
