Raiders Roll to 18-6 Win Against Lafayette

HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/14/07) – Fourteen different Raiders recorded at least one point as the Colgate women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-6 victory against Patriot League foe Lafayette on Saturday, April 14, at Tyler's Field. The win boosts Colgate's overall record to 5-10 on the season, and evens its Patriot League mark at 5-5, while the Leopards are winless in 13 games this spring.

Sophomore Sarah Kellogg (White Plains, N.Y.) led the offensive charge with a career-high four points on three goals and an assist. Classmate Ashley Didio (Syracuse, N.Y.) also had three goals, while junior Jessica Van der Meulen (Liverpool, N.Y.) and freshman Katie Holland (San Diego, Calif.) each had two goals. Sophomore Nancy Clayton (New Canaan, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal, and freshman Lizzy Nolan (Summit, N.J.) earned her first career point with an assist as every healthy Raider saw time on the field. Emily Archibald paced Lafayette with three points on two goals and an assist. She was the only multi-point scorer for the Leopards.

The Raiders raced out to a 6-0 lead before 5:30 had clicked off the clock. Lafayette got on the board at the 7:23 mark before Colgate scored twice more to make it 8-1. The Leopards netted back-to-back goals for the only time in the game midway through the first half, before the Raiders scored the final four goals to make the score 12-3 heading into the break.

Lafayette netted the first goal of the second half before Colgate netted five of the next six. The teams played with a running clock for most of the last 20 minutes as the Raiders built leads as large as 12.

Sophomore Sara Drexler (Pottstown, Pa.) started the game in goal for Colgate, and made three saves in the first half before being replaced by freshman Amanda Gurin (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who made several big saves in the second half and finished her appearance with 10 stops. Lafayette's Christine McDougal recorded 13 saves in the game, including eight in the first half.

Colgate outshot Lafayette 46-25, including 28-10 in the first half. The Raiders won the battle on the ground, picking up 16 balls to the Leopards' 13, and earned a 15-11 edge on draws. Lafayette's struggled on its transition game, achieving 14 successful clears on 21 attempts, while Colgate went 21-for-26 on clears.

The Raiders return to Tyler's Field for their last two games of the regular season, April 21-22. Colgate hosts first-place Holy Cross on Saturday in a crucial Patriot League battle, then faces Northeast Conference power Quinnipiac on Sunday. Both games begin at noon.
