New Haven Stops Franklin Pierce, 20-4
RINDGE, N.H. (April 14, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 20-4 setback to the University of New Haven in non-conference action this afternoon at Sodexho Field. The Charger outscored the Ravens 13-1 in the first half to roll to their sixth victory of the season.
Freshman Kristine Lambracht (White House Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) paced the New Haven attack with a game-high seven points on one goal and six assists. Classmate Sarah LeGoff (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) was also solid, totaling a game-high five goals and one assist, while freshman Traci Cornwell (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) added six points on two goals and five assists.
Sophomore May Stoffer (New Hartford, Conn./Watkinson) led the Franklin Pierce offense with a team-high two goals, while classmate Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) and junior Celine Stamets (Sausalito, Calif./Mavin Catholic) netted one goal apiece. Junior Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) chipped in with one assist.
New Haven jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead midway through the first half. LeGoff led the Charger rally with three goals scored, while Cornwell chipped in with two goals and two assists. Franklin Pierce broke its scoring silence at the 10:51 mark on Savini's 22nd goal of the season, but New Haven added three more goals on scores by Lambracht, senior Amy Shields (Pomfret, Conn./Woodstock Academy) and junior Stacey Krasnoff (Franklin Square, N.Y./Valley Stream North) to take a 13-1 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Franklin Pierce came out firing, rallying off three goals in the first 6:35 of play to cut the New Haven lead to 14-4. Stoffer lead the Raven charge with two goals scored, while Stamets added her fifth goal of the season. New Haven responded just 2:56 later, collecting six unanswered goals to close out the period and preserve its sixth victory of the season.
New Haven out-shot Franklin Pierce 35 to 14 in the contest. Sophomore goaltender Alison Wagner (Collingswood, N.J./Collingswood) collected six stops in net for the Chargers, while senior goaltender Erin Hopkins (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) stopped 11 shots for the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce (1-10, 0-5 NE-10) will be in action again on Monday as it travels to Saint Michael's College at 4:00 p.m. New Haven (6-5, 1-1 ECC) will travel to Bryant University on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
