Miner's Two Goals, Three Assists Propel Camels to Victory

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Junior Sarah Miner (Fairfield, Conn.) tallied two goals and three assists, leading Connecticut College (3-6) to a 13-9 victory against Eastern Connecticut State University (8-4) in women's lacrosse action played on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field Sunday Morning. The Camels earned their second straight victory, ending the Warrior seven-game winning streak in the process. Junior tri-captain Lindsey Coit (South Portland, Maine) chipped in with two goals and two assists for the hosts.

Tri-captain Colby Tallman (Norwell, Mass.) and Ashley Faber (Cohasset, Mass.) each contributed two goals and one assist for Heather McClelland's Camels. Emily Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) added two goals for the hosts. Senior tri-captain Sarah Chandler (Durham, N.H.) finished with a goal and an assist.

Eastern Connecticut State University freshman Taylor MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) had two goals and one assist in the contest. Megan Gloster (Agawam, Mass.) tallied two scores for the Warriors. Senior midfielder Kara Bradley (North Haven, Conn.) added a goal and two assists for the visitors.

The Warriors took a 2-1 lead on Taylor MacDonald's score with 23:41 remaining in the first half. Ashley Faber scored the next two goals for the Camels and the hosts had a brief 3-2 lead. MacDonald tallied her second score of the half with 17:42 to play and the game was tied at three.

But the Camels opened the game up with their motion offense, scoring six unanswered goals to build a 9-3 lead. Miner was in the middle of the action, assisting Colby Tallman on the go-ahead score with 16:18 to go. With 12:45 remaining, Coit fed Miner for a one-timer to make it a 5-3 game. Sarah Chandler capped the rally with a spin move in front of the net. The play was set up by Coit, who launched a perfect home-run pass the length of the field.

Just before the intermission, the Warriors countered with three unanswered goals of their own. Kara Bradley's unassisted tally with 2:44 to go cut the Camel lead to three and it was a 9-6 game. With 46 seconds remaining, Miner dished out her third and most important assist of the half, feeding Molly Hayward (Swarthmore, Pa.) and the Camels carried a 10-6 lead into the break.

Emily Constant (Franklin, Conn.) scored the first goal of the second half for the Warriors and it was a 10-7 game. But the Camels scored the next two goals to build a 12-7 advantage. Connecticut College was able to hold on for the 13-9 victory.

Senior net-minder Erin Calkins (Stony Brook, N.Y.) finished with eight saves for Eastern Connecticut State University. Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) collected the victory for the Camels, stopping six shots in 24:30 of play. Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.) had five saves in relief duty.
