Bates 19, Southern Maine 2
LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's lacrosse team raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first 15 minutes and cruised to a 19-2 non-league victory over the University of Southern Maine on Sunday. USM was the host team, but the game was moved to Bates due to field conditions at USM.
Four players scored hat tricks for the Bobcats (7-4) -- junior Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass.), junior Rachel Harmeling (North Reading, Mass.) and first-years Molly Dilworth (Yarmouth, Maine) and Krystina Zaykowski (Brooklyn, N.Y.). First-year Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) added a pair of goals. Sophomore Caroline Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) scored one goal with two assists, and first-year Katelyn Drake (Hudson, Ohio) added a pair of assists.
The Huskies (3-5) received goals from first-year Jessica Knight (Alfred, Maine) and sophomore Caitlin Albert (Scarborough, Maine). Junior goalkeeper Katie Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) made 11 saves for USM, which had a 39-16 disadvantage in shots taken.
USM senior Ashley Dyer (Harrison, Maine) recorded a game-high three caused turnovers, while junior Amy McNally (East Waterboro, Maine) had a team-high three ground balls. Zaykowski, sophomore Sarah Young (Charlemont, Mass.) and sophomore Lauren Kruck (Boxford, Mass.) all collected three ground balls apiece for the Bobcats.
Bates will play at Middlebury on April 18. USM plays at Lasell on April 19.
