UC Davis Shuts out Division III Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Junior midfielder Katie McGovern had three goals and a school-record six assists to lead UC Davis to an 18-0 shutout over Wittenberg University in collegiate women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon. The Aggies even their record at 7-7. The win marks the program's first shutout since UC Davis blanked St. Vincent, 15-0, back in 2005.

Senior Megan O'Connor matched McGovern's total of three goals while adding two assists of her own. Sophomore Patrice Clark, senior Jen Sanderson and freshman Molly Lapolla each added two goals. Olivia Jarem, Megan Miller and Molly Peterson all had 1-1-2 offensive lines.

UC Davis outshot the Tigers by a 28-5 margin, with all five Wittenberg attempts resulting in saves by junior goalkeeper Hilary Harkins.

Clark, Peterson and sophomore reserve Catie Strahorn-Brown each had goals in the first three minutes to send the Aggies off to a 3-0 start. McGovern then had a goal and assist within a span of 24 seconds to bump the advantage to five.

McGovern later had five straight assists to end the first half as UC Davis took a 14-0 lead at the break. O'Connor scored two of her team's four goals in the second period to close out the win.

The Aggies return home to host Stanford in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game on Tuesday, April 24.
