Saint Michaels Downs Franklin Pierce, 23-6

COLCHESTER, VT. (April 16, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 23-6 setback to Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference this evening. The Purple Knights collected a 16-4 lead after the first half and limited the Ravens to just two goals in the second frame to earn their sixth victory of the season.

Junior Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) led the Saint Michael's scoring attack with a team-high six goals for six points while senior Megan Rule (Bow, N.H./Bow) tallied five goals and one assist. Senior Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) also collected six points on four goals and two assists, while sophomore Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) added five points on four goals and one assist.

Sophomore May Stoffer (New Hartford, Conn./Watkinson) was solid for Franklin Pierce, totaling a team-high three points on one goal and two assists. Classmate Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) aided the Ravens attack with two goals, while junior Celine Stamets (Sausalito, Calif./Mavin Catholic), senior Nicole McKinnon (Northfield, N.H./Winnisquam) and junior Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) chipped in with one goal apiece.

Saint Michael's registered five unanswered goals early in the first half to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Giardina broke the scoring silence for Franklin Pierce at the 4:15 mark as she registered her third goal of the season, but the Purple Knights rallied off 11 more goals to take a 16-4 lead heading into halftime.

Curran led the Saint Michael's first half surge with four goals and one assist, while Rule collected four scores. Savini added a pair of scores for Franklin Pierce, while Stoffer netted one goal to round out the Raven attack.

In the second half, Saint Michael's came out firing, tallying six unanswered goals to begin the period. Rule led the Purple Knights second half attack with two goals and one assist, while Soule added two scores. Celine Stamets collected Franklin Pierce's first goal of the half with 4:45 remaining, while McKinnon registered her second score of the season in the final minute of regulation.

Saint Michael's out-shot Franklin Pierce 47 to 18 in the contest. Junior goaltender Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) posted three saves in the Purple Knight victory, while senior goaltender Erin Hopkins (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) notched 16 saves for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (1-11, 0-6 NE-10) will be in action again on Wednesday as it travels to Merrimack College at 4 p.m. Saint Michael's (6-6, 5-4 NE-10) will travel to Bentley College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
