#17 Dartmouth's Barry Nets Six in Win vs. Harvard

HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.) matched her career-high with six goals, and the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team romped past Harvard, 20-10, on Wednesday night.

While the Big Green outshot the Crimson, 35-15, Dartmouth senior Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.) used three assists to tie the school's career assist record held by Jen Greene '98 with 92 from 1995-98.

The Big Green led, 14-5, at halftime and improved the advantage to 19-6 with 12:30 to play, enabling head coach Amy Patton to substitute liberally.

"It was really nice to get some kids more than a minute and get some time," said Patton. "They all had a part of this today, which is really nice."

Dartmouth's offense took control at the start as Douthett scored the first of her three goals just 50 seconds in. In just over 10 minutes, Barry, senior Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.) and senior Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made it 4-0.

Harvard's Tara Schoen (whose five-goal game was overshadowed) scored twice at the midway point of the first, before Barry sandwiched a pair around one by Douthett for an early 7-2 lead with 14:03 remaining until the break.

"I thought we got draws early," said Patton. "We didn't in the second half as much, but I thought we set the tone off the draw, and then the offense was firing on all cylinders today. When we get ourselves going off the draw, it makes a big difference."

In that category, the Big Green had a commanding 14-6 lead in the first period, and finished with 20 for the game, compared to Harvard's 12.

In addition to Barry and Douthett with six-point contributions, Szefi had three goals and three assists, while Pittman (three goals, one assist) and sophomore Katherine Chiusano (Medford, N.J.) also had four points. Chiusano scored a first-half goal to go along with three assists.

Freshman Eliza Bennett (Darien, Conn.) helped the offense with the first two goals of her varsity career.

Dartmouth (8-4 overall, 4-2 Ivy) faces perennial Ivy League rival Princeton on Saturday, hosting the Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Scully-Fahey Field. The Crimson fell to 2-10 overall, 0-4 Ivy.
