Dove Leads No. 10 Syracuse in Victory over Cornell

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Christina Dove (Bel Air, Md.) led the 10th-ranked Orange with a career-best seven points and set a school record with 11 draw controls as Syracuse cruised past in-state rival Cornell, 22-9. The Orange (9-4) also a team record with 24 draw controls and broke the single-season record for goals.

Dove's 11 draw controls broke the record held by current teammate Kristin Brady (Binghamton, N.Y.). Brady recorded eight draw controls against Northwestern last season. SU's 24 draw controls as a team is one more than the Orange posted against Colgate in 2004.

Syracuse's offense, which entered the game ranked fourth in the nation averaging 15.58 goals per game, is also rewriting the school record books. SU raised its season goal total to 209, setting the program's record with at least three games remaining in the season. The previous record was held by the 2005 team that posted 205 goals in 17 games. Syracuse has tallied at least 20 goals four times this season, which also matches the school record set in 1998. Cornell's 22 goals surrendered is the second most in the program's history.

Senior Ashley Pike (Watertown, N.Y.) recorded a career-best six goals and sophomore Katie Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) added six points on four goals and two assists. Freshman Halley Quillinan (Glenmont, N.Y.) scored three times and added an assist while both Brady and junior Bridget Looney (Silver Spring, Md.) posted two goals and one assist. Senior Jill DePetris (Radnor, Pa.) paced the SU offense with four assists. DePetris raised her season total to 24 assists, the fourth-highest mark in school history.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Pardee-Hill (Lewiston, N.Y.) stopped 13 shots in the cage.

The Orange wasted no time jumping to an early lead, scoring two goals in the first 2:43. Quillinan got SU on the board 1:48 into the contest and Looney scored her first goal of the day 55 seconds later. After Cornell (3-8) responded with a goal of its own, Dove and Pike took over the game. The duo combined for Syracuse's next eight goals and 10-of-11 SU goals. When the two finished their scoring run, the Orange had a commanding lead in the game, 13-4. Brady added her first goal of the evening with 15 seconds left in the half as the two teams headed into intermission with the Orange leading, 14-4.

Syracuse continued its strong offensive showing throughout the second half. Rowan recorded five of her six points during the stanza as the Orange cruised to the 13-goal victory.

Junior Courtney Farrell led the Big Red offense, recording five points on two goals and three assists. With her third assist of the evening, the Syracuse native set the school record with 29 single-season assists.

Syracuse resumes action on Saturday, hosting Loyola in a BIG EAST contest. The Orange can clinch the BIG EAST Championship's top seed by defeating the Greyhounds by at least seven goals and with a Notre Dame victory against Rutgers. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
