Riccitelli Breaks Scoring Record in Win over SCSU

WALTHAM, Mass. - Senior Kellyn Riccitelli (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) broke the Falcons' all-time career scoring record with her 180th career point as the Bentley women's lacrosse team earned a 20-12 win over Assumption on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action. Riccitelli entered the night with 177 points, two shy of the previous career mark of 179 held by Lauren Ferraro (2000-02), and notched three goals and two assists to set the new record. The Falcons won their sixth straight game to improve to 7-4 (6-1 NE-10), while the Owls fell to 2-7 (2-5 NE-10).

Riccitelli quickly tied the record, scoring the first goal of the game and assisting on the second to give Bentley a 2-0 lead that it would never relinquish seven minutes into the game. It took another 11 minutes until classmate Katie Van Horne (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool HS) set Riccitelli up for the record-breaking goal with 11:53 to go in the first half. Riccitelli's five-point night left her with 182 points and at least three more games remaining in her collegiate career to improve on that number.

The outcome of the game was rarely in doubt and several Falcons posted big offensive numbers in the team's third straight 20-goal performance. Sophomore Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover/North Andover HS) continued her assault on the Bentley single-season scoring record with four goals and three assists, giving her 62 points this season, three points shy of the record she tied last year in her freshman campaign. Freshman Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill./Barrington HS) notched a season-best seven points with two goals and five assists and senior Katelyn Barry (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) added a hat trick that included the game-winning goal early in the second half.

The Owls had their share of offensive stars as well, led by four goals from freshman Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y.). Sophomore Grace Martha (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) each netted hat tricks for Southern.

Southern Connecticut State freshman goalie Lisa Corso (North Bellmore, N.Y.) faced a barrage of shots from the Falcons and made 17 saves to keep the Owls in the game as Bentley put 37 shots on net. Freshman Christina Guglielmo (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven HS) stopped four shots at the other end to earn the win for the Falcons.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday with the regular-season home finale against Saint Michael's at 1:00 p.m. Bentley's seniors will be honored before that game.
