Mount Ida Throttles Daniel Webster, 20-1

NASHUA, N.H. (April 19, 2007) - Sophomore attackman Leo Shidler (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) found the net six times and assisted on one other to propel the Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team to a 20-1 triumph over North Atlantic Conference foe Daniel Webster College this afternoon in Nashua, N.H.

Winners of the past three NAC Tournament titles, the Mustangs (9-3, 6-0 NAC) can clinch their fourth-consecutive regular season crown with a win over rival Castleton State College this weekend. The two programs have met in each of the previous three NAC Championships, and both boast undefeated records in Conference play in 2007. In last spring's title game, Mount Ida cruised to a 16-3 triumph. Castleton will host this year's regular season clash on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Mount Ida dominated play from the opening whistle, recording six first quarter goals. The Mustangs took a 10-0 edge into the break and outscored Daniel Webster 10-1 in the second half to secure their eighth win in a row and 28th-straight versus league foes.

Junior Andrew Cloonan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin/Dean CC) tallied seven points on three goals and four assists for Mount Ida. The guests also received a boost from sophomore Brett Conley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield), who notched a hat trick to go along with a pair of helpers.

The Mustangs outshot Daniel Webster 32-10 and owned a 31-24 advantage in the ground ball department. They won 13 of the game's 15 face-offs.

Freshman midfielder Colby Field (Hollis, N.H.) registered the Eagles lone goal in the fourth frame.

Senior goaltender Kyle Bowler (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) made nine saves en route to earning the victory in net for Mount Ida. His counterpart, freshman Adam McKellar (Biddeford, Maine) turned away 12 shots for Daniel Webster (5-4, 4-2 NAC).
