Hamilton 15, Vassar 5
CLINTON, N.Y. -- Liz Longley '07 scored the 100th goal of her career to help lead nationally ranked No. 6 Hamilton College to a 15-5 Liberty League win against visiting Vassar College at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 20.
Hamilton (10-2, 7-0 league) clinched the No. 1 seed for the upcoming league championships tournament and will host the event for the first time on Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5. The Continentals have won 10 straight games. Vassar (8-3, 4-2) had its seven-game win streak snapped. Hamilton has never lost to the Brewers in nine meetings.
Longley is the ninth player in program history to reach the milestone. The 2006 All-American finished the game with two goals, four assists and three caused turnovers. Kaillie Briscoe '09 chipped in four goals and two assists. Nicole Tetreault '08 added three goals and two assists. Tetreault leads the Continentals with 35 goals and 46 points. Suzy Belmont '07 recorded three goals, one assist and three caused turnovers. Kalley Greer '07 made nine saves.
Liz Pacheco '10 and Christine Castellan '08 paced the Vassar offense with two goals apiece. Castellan has scored a team-high 38 goals. Christine Eaccarino '09 registered one goal and two assists. Ariel Nelson '08 stopped 13 shots and picked up four ground balls.
Hamilton scored the first five goals and never trailed. Tetreault scored all three of her goals in the first half as the Continentals took a 9-3 lead into the break. The Brewers pulled within 9-5 early in the second half, but Hamilton didn't allow a Vassar goal for the final 20:34. Meanwhile, the Continentals closed the contest with six straight. Briscoe and Belmont scored two goals apiece during the run.
Hamilton hosts Rensselaer in the Continentals' regular season league finale on Saturday, April 21, at 2:00 p.m. The Brewers travel to the University of Rochester for a league game on Saturday at 2:00.
