Salisbury, N.C.----Catawba College junior attack Kurt Green (San Diego, Calif.) scored back-to-back fourth quarter goals to break a 6-6 tie and give the Catawba Indians a 9-6 victory over Mars Hill College in the semi-finals of the 2007 Deep South Conference tournament in Shuford Stadium. Catawba is the host for the 2007 DSC event.

Number two seed Catawba improves to 6-6 overall with the victory. Number three seed Mars Hill falls to 8-6 overall. The Tribe will play number one seed Wingate (10-4 overall) in Sunday's 2 p.m. championship game.

Green scored an acrobatic goal with 11:34 remaining in the contest to give Catawba the lead for good at 7-6. The All-DSC performer tallied another unassisted goal at the 9:54 mark to give the Indians much-needed insurance and a 8-6 advantage.

The contest featured five ties and four lead changes. Green was the top point producer for the hosts, tallying two goals and two assists (four points). Seven players scored a goal for Catawba Friday night. Tribe freshman midfielder Nick Desper (Carrboro, N.C.) equaled Green with two goals. Catawba outshot Mars Hill 41-20.

For Mars Hill, freshman attack Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) and sophomore midfielder Jeffrey Cizdziel (Stafford, Va.) scored two goals each for the Lions. The Catawba defense held DSC Player of the Year and sophomore attack David Hodgins (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) to one goal on the evening. Farmer, Cizdziel and Hodgins were three of four Lions named to the All-DSC team.

In the first quarter, Catawba took an early 1-0 lead thanks to an unassisted goal by Desper. Both teams tallied four goals each in the second quarter. After the Catawba Indians took a 2-0 lead, Farmer answered with back-to-back unassisted goals to tie the score at 2-2 with 9:44 remaining in the second frame.

Desper tallied again at the 8:45 mark of the second quarter to put Catawba up 3-2. Mars Hill's Cizdziel converted two goals to give the Lions their first lead at 4-3 with 3:46 to play in the second frame. Catawba scored two goals in the last 1:10 of the first half to take a 5-4 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Lions scored the first two goals of the second half to take a 6-5 advantage, their final lead of the evening. MHC junior attack Brad Campbell (Middleton, Wisc.) scored a man-down goal to tie the contest at 5-5 with 13:17 to go in the third frame. Hodgins tallied his only goal of the evening five minutes later to put the Lions up 6-5.

Catawba sophomore attack Mike Dolesh (Aquasco, Md.) tied the game on an assist from junior Eric Finland (McLean, Va.) to complete the third quarter scoring with 6:32 to play. The Dolesh goal tied the game at 6-6 and set the stage for Green's heroics.

Mars Hill sophomore goalkeeper Nick Sigona (Auburn, N.Y.) took the loss. He went wire-to-wire, recording 13 saves. He allowed nine goals and faced 41 shots. Catawba junior netminder Ben Huber (Westminster, Md.) also played 60 minutes. He recorded six saves and faced only 20 shots. Huber permitted six goals.
