Dickinson Uses Fourth-Quarter Run to Down Ursinus
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Drew Peace tallied a game-high five goals and Chris Dodson dished out four assists to help Dickinson post an 11-8 comeback victory over Ursinus 11-8 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
The Red Devils (9-4, 5-2 CC) scored six goals in the second half, including five in the decisive fourth quarter while holding the Bears (8-5, 3-4 CC) to just one goal in the final 30 minutes for their fifth conference victory.
Anthony Tori (Springfield, PA/Springfield), playing in his last collegiate home game, scored a goal and dished out two helpers to reach 100 career assists and move into eighth on the all-time conference list. Matt Orlando (Morton, PA/Springfield) made 14 stops, with seven coming in the third quarter.
Ursinus took an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter after Tori found Pat Nagle (Stoney Brook, NY/Ward Melville) in the third minute and 11th minute. On the second goal, Tori slipped a quick pass inside to Nagle, who took a one-touch shot and put it past Kevin Riley to get his 100th assist.
Peace struck twice, both goals coming just one minute, one second of each other to knot the game at 2-all.
Jason Patterson (West Chester, PA/Unionville) made it 3-2 with just 20 seconds left in the opening quarter with a drive down the middle for the solo tally.
Dane Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) pushed the lead to two goals directly after the face-off won by the Bears and ground ball along with a pass from Eric Hoffman (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge).
From there, both teams went goal-for-goal with Nagle getting his third goal while Scott Boyle (Media, PA/Penncrest) and MikeTori (Springfield, PA/Springfield) each found the back of the net.
Dickinson opened the second half with five straight goals, including the lone goal of the third quarter by Brian Mohler on an assist from Dodson.
Ed Lawless scored twice and Peace collected his fourth goal in the run.
A. Tori cut the lead to 10-8 at the 8:53 mark of the fourth quarter, but Peace netted the final goal of the game with under four minutes to play for ending margin.
The Red Devils' Bernie Nolan won 17 of the 23 face-offs and tallied a game-high 11 ground balls.
The Bears return to action on Saturday at Muhlenberg. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
