R-MC Closes out Regular Season with Win at Hollins
ASHLAND, VA – Thirteen different Yellow Jackets scored Saturday as the Randolph-Macon College women's lacrosse team closed out its regular season slate of games with an 18-2 victory over ODAC foe Hollins University in Roanoke, Va.
The win improves the Jackets to 10-4 on the season and 6-2 in the league as they locked up the second-seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming ODAC Tournament to be held at Washington and Lee University next Saturday and Sunday.
R-MC's Traci Phipps registered nine points with two goals and seven assists on the day. Marie Parry tallied three goals while Lizzy Spero and Megan Cooper joined Phipps with a pair of goals. The R-MC defense held HU to just five shots on the day and keeper Lindsay Schabert made three stops in the net for R-MC.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first eight goals of the game with two strikes coming off the stick of Phipps. After an HU score, R-MC rattled off the final six goals of the half to take a 14-1 advantage at half-time.
R-MC out shot HU 32-5, held a 21-18 advantage in the ground ball battle and recorded 17 draw control wins on the afternoon.
Randolph-Macon will be off until next Saturday when it travels to Washington and Lee for the semifinals of the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. The second-seeded Jackets will find out its opponent following the quarterfinal games on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
