Cazenovia Routs Wells; Caldwel Breaks Points Record

AURORA, N.Y. Playing a previously rescheduled game, the Cazenovia College Women's lacrosse team, on Mon., April 23, defeated the Wells College Express, 15-2. Cazenovia, with the win, improved to 3-5 on the year. Wells fell to 2-11 on the year with the loss.

Cazenovia jumped out to an early lead on Wells thanks to six unanswered first-half goals. Holding the Express scoreless in the first stanza, Cazenovia controlled the ball and the pace of play.

Courtney Caldwel ('10, Black River, N.Y. / Immaculate Heart Central HS) opened up scoring for the Wildcats with two goals at 25:56 and 24:33 of the first period. Caldwel finished the game with six goals, four assists and a game-high ten-point performance. The day was a career-best in each category for Caldwel and a record-breaking performance for the women's lacrosse program. Caldwel's ten-point performance breaks the school record for points in a game and her six goals and four assists both tie the school record in each category.

Cazenovia's Jaclyn Capocefalo ('07, East Syracuse, N.Y. / Onondaga CC) finished with three goals and now has a career-high ten goals on the season. Capocefalo's previous career-high was four goals in 2006.

Rachel Simone ('07, Syracuse, N.Y. / Marcellus HS) finished with two goals and leads the team with 20 goals on the season. Simone, who will play the last home game of her career on Wed., April 25, against the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), has the most goals (56) and points (62) of any active player on the Cazenovia roster.

Samantha Maitland ('10, Morrisville, N.Y. / Morrisville - Eaton Central) made one save and allowed two goals for the Wildcats. Maitland moves to 3-6 on the year with the win.

Cazenovia dominated the majority of team statistics. The Wildcats out-shot the Express 34-10, dug-out 19 more groundballs and committed 16 less turnovers.

Cazenovia is next in action on Wed., April 25, in Liverpool, N.Y., at Liverpool High School, against RIT. Game time is slated for 7:00 PM. The game will be Cazenovia's final home game of the season and will also serve as senior day for three Wildcats.
