Knights Finish Season with a Win on Senior Day

LAURINBURG, N.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College men's lacrosse team celebrated ‘Senior Day' with a bang, defeating non-conference Catawba College 14-8 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Knights concluded their best season in the programs NCAA Division II era with a 12-5 overall record. The 12 wins is a single-season record at SAPC. The Indians, who have one game left when they host Lees-McRae College on Friday at 7:00 p.m., maintain a 6-8 overall record.

Third year head coach Michael Lawson honored eight seniors before today's game including attack Zach Mryncza (Baltimore, Md.), middie Dan Hartzell (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada), attack Dalen Crouse (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada), middie Drew Howell (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada), middie Tom Watt (Whitby, Ontario, Canada), attack Tony Ferreira (Youngsville, N.C.), middie Sean Todd (Union Bridge, Md.), and defender Ernest Chaluisant (Binghamton, N.Y.).

Crouse and D. Howell scored the only two goals of the first quarter to give the Knights the lead for the whole day. St. Andrews went on a 6-2 outburst in the second stanza to take a commanding 8-2 lead at halftime. The Knights continued to pull away with a 3-1 third period to take their largest lead of the contest, 11-3. Catawba battled hard with a 5-3 fourth, pulling the final deficit to six goals.

SAPC held a 41-32 shot lead and a 50-35 ground ball advantage while winning 15-of-25 face offs.

Sophomore Cole Howell (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada) had a game-high four goals to lead St. Andrews offensively. Mryncza had five points with two goals and three helpers while Hartzell notched a hat trick and one assist for four points. Crouse finished with a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Howell chipped in with one goal and one assist. Sophomore John Holt (Dumfries, Va.) tallied one score and sophomore Phil Hardy (Cincinnati, Ohio) concluded the Knights scoring with a last minute mark for his first goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nate Hull (Millersville, Md.), who was the winning netminder in all 12 of St. Andrews record-breaking victories, made 12 saves while only allowing seven goals. Junior Ben Huber (Westminster, Md.) had eight stops for Catawba.

Junior Kurt Green (San Diego, Calif.) had a team-high five points to lead the Indians offensively including three goals and two assists. Freshman Sean Duggan (Wantagh, N.Y.) logged two goals while three other Indians scored one goal and one assist including sophomore Mike Dolesh (Aquasco, Md.), freshman Nick Desper (Carrboro, N.C.), and sophomore Wayne Carbiener (Orlando, Fla.).
