CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Andrea Venditti (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored five goals and senior Jennifer Willis (Huntington/Walt Whitman) added three goals and three assists as nationally 12th-ranked Cortland defeated Brockport, 16-4, in a matchup of teams unbeaten in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons, winners of eight straight games, are 10-3 overall and 5-0 in league play. Brockport had a seven-game win streak snapped and is now 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Freshman goalie Deanne Abell (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) made nine saves, five in the first half, for Cortland. She allowed a goal to Brockport junior Jenny Baccile (Elmira/Horseheads) just 41 seconds into the game, but the Red Dragons kept the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard for the next 22-plus minutes. Cortland scored eight goals during that stretch, including four by Venditti and two by senior Gina Fazio (Brownville/General Brown), and led 8-1.

Lexie Goodhart (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden) scored for Brockport with 6:24 left in the half, but Venditti netted her fifth goal of the game and 37th of the season with 1:06 remaining and the Red Dragons led 9-2 at halftime. Cortland put the game away by scoring the first five goals in a 13-minute span to start the second half. Willis registered two goals and an assist in that span as the Red Dragons took a 14-2 lead.

Fazio finished with three goals and one assist, freshman Jessie Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored twice and senior Cici Carter (Guilderland) added a goal and an assist for Cortland. The Red Dragons won 16-of-22 draw controls, including five by Willis and three by sophomore Meghan Gallagher (Long Beach).

Baccile scored three goals and Goodhart totaled a goal and an assist for Brockport. Senior goalie Ashley Taylor (Middle Island/Longwood) made six saves.
