St. Mary's Ends 2007 with 13-6 Win over Randolph-Macon
St. Mary's City, MD – The St. Mary's (Md.) College men's lacrosse team ended the 2007 campaign on a high note as the Seahawks posted a 13-6 victory over the visiting Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College Wednesday afternoon.
Today was also Senior Day and St. Mary's eight seniors were recognized prior to the start of the game.
The Seahawks led 3-0 after the first period as senior attackman Kyle Patton (Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) started the scoring at 8:46.
Randolph-Macon doubled up on St. Mary's in the second quarter as the Yellow Jackets outscored SMCM, 4-2 to only be down 5-4 at halftime. Junior attackman Peter LaPaglia (Baltimore, MD/Boys' Latin) netted two goals for RMC.
Patton once again got the Seahawks off to the right start in the third frame when he netted a man-up goal off a feed from freshman attackman Josh Hostetler (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) at 11:41. After a Yellow Jacket goal at 5:16, St. Mary's went on a 6-0 that would start with two in the third and finish with four in the fourth stanza.
Junior middie Keith Baker (Virginia Beach, VA/Bishop Sullivan) notched Randolph-Macon's final goal at 4:18 of the fourth period.
Patton finished with a hat trick in his last collegiate game, while freshman middie Ryan Alexander (Laurel, MD/Palotti) added two goals and an assist. Junior middie Cyrus Albertson (Chevy Chase, MD/St. John's College [DC]) chipped in two goals.
Senior defenseman Mike Alcamo (Severna Park, MD/Severn) and sophomore middie Marc DiPasquale (Joppa, MD/Boys' Latin) each had nine ground balls for the Seahawks.
LaPaglia ended the day with two goals, while sophomore defender Kurt Henegan (Arlington, VA/Yorktown) scooped up five ground balls.
In goal, seniors Rich Barr (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) and Matt Wiest (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal) and freshman Ben Craft (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) combined for 18 saves in the win.
Senior goalie Brian Vierheller (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll) had 13 stops for the Yellow Jackets.
