Oneonta Score as Horn Sounds to Edge Plattsburgh

Senior Neal Campbell (Merrick, NY/Mepham) scored today's game-winning goal with no time left on the game clock to lift Oneonta to a 12-11 win against Plattsburgh in a critical SUNYAC game. Campbell picked up a loose ball at the side of the goal and got a shot off just as the final horn sounded. After the officials huddled to determine whether the ball left his crosse before the horn, they ruled it a good goal and the celebration started.

Oneonta trailed 11-10 with 7:27 remaining in the game after Plattsburgh scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Sophomores Adrian Marino (Huntington, NY/Huntington) and Matt Maes (Lindenhurst,

NY/Lindenhurst) both scored unassisted goals to tie the game before freshman Luke Weidlein (Seaford, NY/Seaford) scored the go-ahead goal with an assist from classmate Kyle Norchi (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge).

Junior Tyler Dunne (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 11 apiece with three minutes left. Dunne finished the game with four goals including an extra man goal to end the third quarter to give Oneonta a two-goal lead entering the fourth quarter.

Oneonta held a 3-1 lead after the first quarter on goals by Dunne, Campbell and sophomore George Tsirigotis (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip).

Campbell finished the day with four goals and one assist to lead the Red Dragons.

The two teams broke out during the second quarter combining for 10 goals with Plattsburgh scoring six of them to create a deadlock at the half of 7-7. Norchi netted a pair of goal in the quarter to lead the Cardinals.

In the third quarter, Oneonta scored a pair of extra man goals including the one by Dunne. The other came unassisted by sophomore Troy Lepore (Cortlandt, NY/Hendrick Hudson).

The win for Oneonta (11-4/2-3) kept its hopes alive of earning the fourth spot in this year's conference tournament, which begins next Wednesday. The loss for Plattsburgh (9-5/2-3) means that they must defeat Geneseo at home on Saturday for their opportunity to reach the SUNYAC playoffs.

Oneonta will finish the regular season on the road at Brockport this Saturday with the game scheduled for noon. An Oneonta win and a Plattsburgh loss will get them into the SUNYAC tournament.
