American International Nips Franklin Pierce, 13-9

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (April 26, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 13-9 setback to American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening. The Yellow Jackets gained an 8-4 advantage in the first half and never looked back to earn their second victory of the season.

Freshman Katie Warner (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) led the American International offensive attack with a game-high nine points on five goals and four assists. Junior Caitlin Mooney (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) was also solid with five goals for five points, while senior Lindsay Wolfe (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) and sophomore Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) collected two points apiece.

Junior Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) led Franklin Pierce with a team-high five points on four goals and one assist, while sophomore Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) registered three points on two scores and one helper. Senior Nicole McKinnon (Northfield, N.H./Winnisquam) added one goal and one assist for the Ravens, while sophomore May Stoffer (New Hartford, Conn./Watkinson) and freshman Meghan Masterson (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) chipped in with one score each.

American International jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with four unanswered goals to start the half. Franklin Pierce responded with back-to-back scores by Masterson and Stoffer at the 23:41 mark to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to 4-2. Thereafter, the two teams traded scores twice before American International netted two goals late in the half to take an 8-4 lead at halftime.

In the second half, both teams played evenly scoring five goals apiece. Mooney led the American International charge with three goals scored, while Warner added two goals and one assist. Giardina was solid for the Ravens, tallying two goals and one assist, while McKinnon notched a goal and a helper.

Senior goaltender Megan Trytsman (Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa/Maris Stella) collected 19 saves in net for American International, while senior goaltender Erin Hopkins (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) stopped ten shots for Franklin Pierce..

Franklin Pierce (2-14, 1-9 NE-10) will conclude its season as it travels to L.I.U.- C.W. Post University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. American International (2-10, 2-7 NE-10) will concludes its season on Saturday as it travels to Merrimack at 1:00 p.m.
