Bily Helps No. 3 Le Moyne to Victory Over Bentley

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior Alex Bily (Syracuse, N.Y.) led a balanced Dolphins attack to help Le Moyne to a 12-3 win over the Bentley men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference regular season finale for each team at the Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins, ranked third in the nation in the latest USILA Division II Poll, improved their record to 11-2 (7-2 NE-10), while the Falcons closed their season with a 4-8 mark (3-6 NE-10). Bentley's loss combined with other results around the league eliminated the Falcons from playoff contention.

Le Moyne jumped out to an early lead that proved insurmountable with six unanswered goals in the first quarter. Junior Tom Donahue (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored first to but the Dolphins on the board and junior Andrew Carducci (Syracuse, N.Y.) made it 4-0 with the eventual game-winner with six minutes left in the opening frame. The Falcons broke through early in the second when freshman Brad Tunis (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury HS) netted a man-up goal. Le Moyne scored three more before senior Craig Cormier (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) found the back of the net with 40 seconds left before halftime to make it a 9-2 game at the break.

The Dolphins offense slowed down in the second half, but Bentley was unable to get back into the game, scoring only one goal when Tunis tallied his second man-up goal of the game 41 second into the fourth quarter. Bily scored twice and added an assist to lead Le Moyne and junior Mike McDonald (Latham, N.Y.) also scored a pair of the Dolphins while senior Matt Cassalia (Camillus, N.Y.) recorded a goal and an assist.

Sophomore Zach Gostanian (Andover, Mass./Andover HS) made 12 saves in net for the Falcons, while senior Jared Corcoran (Concord, N.H.) stopped six shots at the other end before giving way to sophomore Doug McIver (Altamont, N.Y.), who made two saves over the final nine minutes. Le Moyne doubled Bentley in shots, 40-20, and won the ground ball battle by a 39-16 margin.
