Limestone Rally Falls Just Short at Davidson
DAVIDSON, N.C.—The Limestone College women's lacrosse team went on a six-goal run with four minutes left to play to try to rally from a 17-10 deficit, but was edged by Davidson (NCAA Division I) 17-16 on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Saints' record stands at 14-5 for the season with the loss while Davidson improves to 5-8.
Limestone trailed 10-5 at halftime, but came out strong in the second period as they outscored the Wildcats 11-6.
Summer Ferraro (East Setauket, N.Y.) led the Lady Saints with five goals. Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.), Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.), and Jessica Brown (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) each scored twice. Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.), Katie Ilott (Whitbey Ontario, Canada), Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), and Aricka Piersma (Columbia, S.C.) also contributed goals. Lickert also recorded three assists. Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.), Ferraro, and Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) also tallied assists.
Limestone goalkeeper Erin Cavanaugh (Ellicott City, Md.) had 12 saves during the contest. Terri George (Jordan, N.Y.), Ilott, and Wise each won three draw controls.
Becky Horton led Davidson with five goals and Callie Seymour and Haley Cook recorded hat tricks.
Davidson held the advantage on shots (42-28) and ground balls (20-10). The Wildcats edged the Lady Saints on draw controls, 18-17.
