Malinowski's Nine Points Propel #8 Trinity to Victory
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Senior Lauren Malinowski (Longmeadow, Mass.) exploded with five goals and four assists Saturday, leading eighth ranked Trinity College (11-3, 6-3) to a 19-14 victory at Connecticut College (4-10, 1-8). CJ Yanofsky dished out five assists to go with a goal for the Bantams, who locked up the #2 seed in the 2007 NESCAC Championship with the victory. Sarah Remes (Silver Spring, Md.) added four scores as the Bantams secured their fourth consecutive victory. Trinity will host seventh seeded Williams Sunday at noon in Hartford.
Connecticut College freshman Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) tallied four scores for the Camels, completing a productive rookie season with 26 goals. Sarah Miner (Fairfield, Conn.) had two goals and one assist for the Camels. Angela Keller (New York, N.Y.) contributed two scores for the Camels.
Sarah Chandler (Durham, N.H.) tallied a goal and an assist along with four ground balls for the Camels. The lone senior on the Connecticut College team, Chandler was honored in a pre-game ceremony. She completes her career as a Camel with 110 ground balls, 36 caused turnovers, 20 goals, and 13 assists.
Trinity jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the first half. But the Camels countered with three unanswered goals over the closing 4:11 to cut the lead to one. Sara Christopher capped the run, scoring on a feed from Aly Ridgway (South Berwick, Maine) with 1:18 to play and it was a 9-8 game at the break.
In the second stanza, Trinity opened up the offense. C.J Yanofsky made it a 13-10 game, scoring with 17:11 remaining. Just 1:14 later, Yanofsky assisted Sarah Remes for a score. With 14:19 to play, Yanofsky fed Malinowski for a goal and it was a 15-10 game. Trinity was able to hold on for the 19-14 victory.
Michelle Smith (Wayland, Mass.) had seven saves for the Bantams. Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with 14 saves for the Camels.
