No. 11 Bowdoin Rallies to Down No. 18 Williams
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team erased a four-goal deficit with a 6-0 second-half run and took an eventual 15-12 win over Williams in their regular season finale on Saturday. The Polar Bears (9-5, 5-4) earn the fifth seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament that begins tomorrow at will play at fourth-seeded Colby at noon.
Trailing 8-4 at the half, the Ephs extended their lead to five, 9-4, with an early goal from junior Sara duPont, but from that point on the Polar Bears would take control. With 23 minutes remaining, Bowdoin would close out the game on an 11-3 run which featured junior Lindsey Colbrum scoring four of her career-high six goals on the day in that span. Senior Taylor White and junior Ali Draudt scored three goals each, five coming in the second half, to help lead the Polar Bear comeback.
Stephanie Collins-Finn made 13 saves in goal for Bowdoin, who will attempt to avenge a loss earlier this season to Colby. The Mules took a 13-8 win on April 18 in Brunswick. Bowdoin and Colby have enjoyed a fierce rivalry in women's lacrosse in recent years, as Sunday will mark the fifth time in the last six years the teams have met in the postseason. Bowdoin defeated Colby in the NCAA Tournament last spring, 11-8, and also beat the Mules in the First Round of the NESCAC Tournament in 2004, 13-4. In 2003 and 2002, Colby downed Bowdoin in the opening round by identical 11-7 scores.
