Brockport Defeats Oneonta State in SUNYAC Action
Junior Jenny Baccile (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) scored four goals while freshman Lexie Goodhart (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) added three goals and one assist to lead the visiting Brockport Golden Eagles to an 18-12 win against host Oneonta State in SUNYAC women's lacrosse action this afternoon.
The win for Brockport raised its overall record to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the SUNYAC while Oneonta fell to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Brockport took control early in this one scoring the game's first six goals en route to a 10-5 lead at halftime. Senior Courtney Dean (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) scored a pair in the Golden Eagles' opening run.
Oneonta broke the string on a free position goal by freshman Deanna Paquette (Medford, NY/Medford) before Brockport answered with two goals of its own to take a commanding 8-1 lead with over 15 minutes to go in the opening half of play.
Oneonta scored four straight goals including two by freshman Lauren Portnoy (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) to cut the lead to 8-5.
Baccile and Dean scored the final two goals of the half for Brockport as they tallied 10 goals on just 21 shots in the first half.
In the second half the two teams went back-and-forth mostly exchanging goals with Oneonta never getting any closer than four goals at 11-7 and 13-9.
Portnoy led Oneonta with three goals.
Oneonta will be in action again this coming Tuesday when they travel to Fredonia for its regular season finale. Oneonta needs to win to qualify in the fourth and final spot for next weekend's conference tournament.
