HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (May 1, 2007)— Hampden-Sydney's lacrosse team fell to Lynchburg College, 11-8, on Tuesday in the semifinals of the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Lacrosse Tournament at Hellmuth-Pritzlaff Field. The Hornets held a 6-5 advantage at halftime and went on for the victory, 11-8 . Senior Thomas Jennings (Murfreesboro, TN/Webb School) scored three goals and recorded one assist to lead the Tigers. With the loss, Hampden-Sydney drops to 12-3 overall, while Lynchburg improves to 13-3 on the season and will face the winner of the Roanoke/Washington and Lee game in the Championship of the ODAC Tournament.

Lynchburg jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but seniors Thomas Jennings and Will Shell (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's) got the Tigers on the board as each scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to one, 3-2, at the 0:32 mark in the first quarter. Both teams traded a number of goals in the second quarter, including a pair from Jennings, giving Lynchburg a 6-5 advantage heading into the intermission.

In the third quarter, Lynchburg scored three unanswered goals to push their lead to four, 9-5, but the Tigers fought back, scoring two goals in the final two minutes to cut the lead to two. Scoring the for the Tigers in the third were seniors Will Shell and Michael Via (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) with one goal apiece. In the fourth, the Hornets pushed their advantage to four goals, 11-7, before Kelly Mattie scored the Tigers final goal at the 3:51 mark, giving Lynchburg the 11-8 victory.

Leading the Tigers in scoring was Jennings with three goals and one assist, while Shell added two goals on the day. Senior Ryan Harrington (Dallas, TX/Plano) recorded one goal. Senior Middleton Smith (Stevenson, MD/Boys' Latin) and Colin Dunn (Chevy Chase, MD/Trinity Pawling) had one assist each, while Dunn's seven groundballs was a game-high.

Senior goalkeeper Scott Russell (Darien, CT/Darien) recorded 12 saves and grabbed four groundballs for the Tigers. The Tigers won 12-of-23 on face-off attempts and were successful on 16-of-18 clear attempts.

Hampden-Sydney will have to await for word about their possible participation in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The selection will be on Sunday, May 6.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Nine different players recorded goals Tuesday afternoon and the balanced scoring attack led the third-seeded Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team to an 11-8 win over second-seeded Hampden-Sydney College. The contest was in the ODAC Championship Tournament semifinals, and advances the Hornets into the title game this weekend.

LC scored the game's first three goals, but the Tigers scored the last two goals of the opening quarter. The teams traded goals until intermission, and the Hornets entered halftime ahead 6-5. The Hornets pushed the lead to four after netting the first three tallies of the second half, and held at least a two-goal edge the rest of the way.

Junior Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/Henderson) posted two goals and an assist, and Leon Bournes (Washington, D.C./Archbishop Carroll) found the back of the net twice. Kolter Livengood (Dallas, TX/Highland Park) and Stephen Weis (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers) each posted a goal and an assist, while Kyle Fortman (Gambrills, MD/Archbishop Spaulding), Kyle McGuire (Burke, VA/Robinson), Michael Mundorf (Catonsville, MD/Mt. Saint Joseph), Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paul's) and Chris Perzinski (Freeland, MD/Hereford) had one goal apiece. Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) turned away nine H-SC shot attempts.
