Elizabethtown Falls in OT to FDU in MAC Semifinals

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College bowed out of the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs Thursday in an 11-10 overtime loss at home to FDU-Florham. The Blue Jays, which had the top seed in the MAC playoffs, end their season 13-4 overall, while FDU-Florham improves to 10-7 overall and advances to face Lycoming College on the road Saturday in the MAC championship game.

Etown tore out to a 4-1 lead in the game's first ten minutes, but that lead had shrunk to 6-4 by halftime. FDU-Florham got its first lead of the game, 7-6 with 21:31 left in the second half. Etown tied the game 7-7 at 18:56, and FDU and Elizabethtown traded goals for the remainder of regulation time, with the score knotted 10-10 after a Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) goal for Etown with 43 seconds left on the clock. All four of Elizabethtown's second-half goals came on eight-meter shots.

33 seconds into overtime, Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scored what turned out to be the game-winners as the visiting Devils held on to their 11-10 lead for the remainder of OT.

Foley and Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) led Elizabethtown in scoring with three goals apiece. Gambardello and Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) led FDU-Florham in scoring with three goals each.
