#12 Union Runs by William Smith in Liberty Semifinals

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Allie Toney '07 scored four goals to help lead nationally ranked No. 12 Union College to a 13-7 win against William Smith College in a Liberty League championships tournament semifinal game played at Hamilton College's Campus Road Athletic Field on May 4.

Union (10-4 overall) advances to its fourth straight league title game and will play top-seeded Hamilton on Saturday, May 5, at 1:00 p.m. for the championship. The Continentals defeated Vassar College 19-5 earlier today. The Dutchwomen -- seeded second -- have won the last two league tournament crowns. Third-seeded William Smith (10-6) lost three of its last four games, including a 19-5 setback at Union on April 21.

Toney is the seventh Dutchwoman player to record 150 points in her career. She has exactly 150 after the four-point performance against the Herons. Keri Messa '08 chipped in two goals and one assist. Liz Zamore '09 and Erin Lawson '08 added two goals apiece. Steph Burlton '07 made eight of her 11 saves in the second half. Union's senior class has now won 51 games.

Sarah Dillon '07 paced William Smith's offense with three goals and two assists. Rachel Stahl '08 registered one goal and one assist.

The Dutchwomen held leads of 2-0, 5-1 and 7-2 in the first half. The Herons bridged the first and second halves with four straight goals to pull within 7-6 with 25:49 left in the game. Dillon's 47th goal this year made it a one-goal contest. However, Union responded with six consecutive scores to clinch the victory. Five different players scored during the run, which ended on Lawson's 21st goal with 4:19 remaining.
