Gators Advance to AWCC Championship Game

AURORA, N.Y. College of Notre Dame of Maryland shutout Trinity University, 13-0, in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference Semifinals on Saturday afternoon, securing a spot in tomorrow's AWCC Championships.

The top-seeded Gators (14-2) will play the winner of the other semifinal between No. 2 seed Hood College and No. 3 seed Wells College in Sunday's Championship Game at 2 p.m. All games are being played at Wells.

Freshman midfielder Lauren Terry (Towson, Md./The Catholic High School of Baltimore) scored three goals, and senior midfielder Tina Money (Shady Side, Md./Queen Anne's County High School) added two goals and an assist for the Gators.

Notre Dame shutout the fourth-seeded Tigers (0-10) for the second time this season. The Gators beat Trinity, 16-0, on April 2 in the teams' regular-season meeting.

Sunday's title game will be the final lacrosse contest for the AWCC. The conference will disband after this season, and Notre Dame will join the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference in 2007-2008.

The Gators will contend for their 12th-straight AWCC Championship. Since conference play began in 1996, they have never lost an AWCC contest in 67 regular-season and tournament games.

Terry scored the first two goals of the game, the first coming with 28:53 left in the half. Notre Dame led 11-0 at halftime and only scored two goals after the break.

Senior midfielder Sara Breidenbaugh (Glen Arm, Md./Perry Hall High School) led all players with three assists in the game.

In all, 10 players scored for Notre Dame, and two others had assists. The Tigers managed only three shots in the game.

Money had game-highs of six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
