Senior Day Proves a Success in Eagles' Season Finale
Newton, Mass.-Women's lacrosse ended the 2007 season on a high note with a 13-3 win over Brown University at the Newton Campus Field on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles shut out the Bears, 9-0, in the first half en route to the win. Boston College finishes the season with a 6-11 record, while Brown finishes with a 4-12 mark.
Prior to the first draw, the Eagles' four seniors-Elizabeth Kadison, Meghan Davis, Brennan Joyce and Katherine Wagoner-were recognized for their contributions to the program as they each finished up their collegiate careers this afternoon.
Kadison and sophomore Maura Mahoney each notched a hat trick and an assist, while freshman Lauren Costello tallied four points on the strength of two goals and two assists. Sophomore Jenna McCabe also finished the game with multiple points by contributing two goals and an assist.
The Eagles outshot the Bears, 16-8, in the first half and outscored the visitors, 9-0. Much of BC's success came off the draw. The Eagles controlled seven of 10 draws in the first frame, and team leader Mahoney finished with five controls in the game and 73 on the season. Kadison scored all three of her goals in an 11 minute span in the first half. The senior finished the half's scoring at 1:12 after receiving a quick dish from Costello on a free position attempt.
Brown got on the board less than two minutes into the second stanza, but BC reasserted their dominance quickly. At 25:12, McCabe caught a centering feed from Wagoner with her back to the net and flicked the ball over her shoulder past Brown goalie Melissa King for the Eagles' 10th goal of the afternoon. Two Mahoney goals and a tally from sophomore Emily Hannigan finished off BC's scoring.
Sophomore Katie Monaghan picked up her sixth win of the season with 10 saves in her complete game in net. She held Brown's offense to 1-for-6 on free position shots. King allowed 13 goals on the other end of the field while making 12 saves.
