UC Davis Downs St. Mary's in MPSF Fifth-Place Game

DAVIS, Calif. -- In Saturday's opener, Katie McGovern hit her eight-meter shot with 4:24 remaining to break the game's fifth tie as UC Davis escaped with a 12-10 win over Saint Mary's in the fifth-place contest. Aggie senior Megan O'Connor scored four goals and won six draw controls, while McGovern finished with a hat trick.

The Gaels were led by senior Jackie Spencer's tournament-best six goals, while P.J. Hainley added three goals and five draw controls. Spencer's fifth goal provided SMC with a 9-8 lead in the 50th minute, while her sixth score came on the heels of UC Davis freshman Molly Lapolla's go-ahead goal in the 55th.

Junior defender Ranessa Santos donned the goalie gear for the first time in her career as she filled in for All-MPSF honoree Hilary Harkins, who was injured in Friday's loss to Cal. Santos posted six first-half saves for the Aggie victory.

The MPSF tournament, now in its fourth year, concludes on Sunday. Cal and Oregon will square off in the third-place game at 11:00 a.m., then Stanford will attempt to claim a third straight title in the title game against Denver at 1:00 p.m.
