Tigers Dominate in Battle of Top Teams in West Region

The Colorado College women's lacrosse team dominated at both ends of the field and defeated Claremont Colleges, 17-10, on Saturday in a battle of the top-ranked teams in the West Region at Claremont, Calif.

The Tigers improved to 8-5 overall, with four of those losses coming to teams ranked in the Top 13 of the IWLCA Division III poll, and extended its lead in the series to 6-0. The Athenas suffered their first loss of the season and slipped to 15-1.

The Tigers were dominant at both ends of the field and led by more than 10 goals in the second half. CC received goals from nine different players, including a game-high five from senior attacker Kate Fitzgerald. Robin Harvey struck for four goals, while Marissa McGrann and Kerry O'Shaugnessy added two each.

Mallory Singer and Courtney Cronin had three goals apiece to pace the Athenas.

Senior defenders Anna Ligget and Lizzie Rosenberger led the Tigers' defensive effort that continually kept the CMA attack out of the eight-meter area.

Colorado College will close out the 2007 regular season when the Tigers take on the University of Redlands on Sunday afternoon.

CC is hoping to receive its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh overall when the field is announced later in the day on Sunday.
