Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Freshman Austin Carino (Huntington, N.Y.) netted the game winning goal off of feed from sophomore Kevin Hennessy (West Babylon, N.Y.) with 1:28 remaining in the second overtime to lift No. 3 NYIT over Molloy College 12-11 this afternoon in East Coast Conference men's lacrosse action. The Bears close out the regular season with a 10-1 record, 5-1 in ECC play. NYIT's only loss of the season came last weekend at No. 1 Mercyhurst 12-9. The Lions finish the season 8-5 overall and 2-4 in the league.

The Bears will now wait to see if they are selected to the NCAA tournament. The Division II selection show will air on CSTV, beginning at 9 p.m.

The game remained scoreless thourgh the the first seven minutes before sophomore Matt Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) scored a man-up goal on a pass from Hennessy. Carino followed with his first goal of the game and Hennessy gave the Bears a 3-0 lead, all in the span of a minute and half, scoring a man-up goal at the 6:57 mark off of a pass from freshman Matt Sullivan (West Islip, N.Y.).

Molloy's Jeremy Kyrkostas and Tim Harrington teamed up to score the final two goals of the first quarter to pull the Lions to within 3-2.

NYIT responded by opening the second quarter with consecutive goals from sophomore Al Maione (Islip, N.Y.) and Hennessy, but the Lions netted the next three goals within two minutes to tie the game at five with six minutes left before halftime. Molloy and NYIT traded goals but Messina found the back of the net for his second score of the game with just :22 seconds left on the clock to help the Bears head into halftime with a 7-6 lead.

Less than a minute into the third quarter, Molloy senior Dom Toscano evened the score at seven. Maione answered for NYIT just over a minute later with a goal but Molloy grabbed their first advantage of the game after Dan Lamonica notched back-to-back goals. Toscano's man-down goal to close out the third quarter gave Molloy a 10-8 lead.

Hennessy figured into the Bears next two scores, scoring his third of the game less than a minute into the fourth and then setting up Maoine for the game tying goal with just over five minutes remaining. Messina netted an unassisted tally with 3:41 to go, giving NYIT an 11-10 lead, but Harrington scored at 2:09 to to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first overtime with NYIT recording three shots and Molloy two shots.

With 1:48 left in the second overtime, Carino found the back off the net off of Hennessy's third assist of the day to give NYIT the victory.

Hennessy recorded a game high six points on three goals and three assists, Maione and Messina each added three goals and an assist and Sullivan dished out three assists in the win. Freshman Eric Ghiraldi (Wantagh, N.Y.) picked up his second win of the season, allowing five goals with four saves in 53 minutes of action.

Lamonica led the Lions with a game-high four goals, Toscano had two goals and two assists, while sophomore Keith Galante handed out three assists. Sophomore Rob Humann (Hicksville, NY) made 18 saves in net for the Lions.
