Hawks Fall 12-6 at ECACs to St. John Fisher
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - St. John Fisher went on a 9-0 run spanning the second and third quarters, defeating Hartwick College12-6 in ECAC men's lacrosse action Saturday at Rochester Institute of Technology. The Hawks finished the 2007 campaign with a 7-8 record. With the win, the Cardinals advanced to the ECAC Upstate Championship game against RIT tomorrow afternoon.
Fisher got on the board first, tallying at the 11:09 mark in the first quarter courtesy of a man-up goal scored by Dave Malone. Hartwick got the equalizer, making the score 1-1 with 44 seconds left in the first when Lee Austin (Duxbury, Mass.) buried a Brian Miller (Acton, Mass.) feed. The Hawks outshot the Cardinals 14-4 in the first frame but were unable to capitalize.
The score would remain knotted until another Malone man-up goal at 13:03 put Fisher up 2-1. The Cardinals would go on to score the next eight goals, taking a 10-1 lead with 6:10 to play in the third, when the Dan Hushion (Farmingdale, N.Y.) gave the Hawks their second goal of the day.
Hartwick would out-score Fisher 4-2 in the final quarter, but the Cardinals prevailed with the final 12-6 score. The Hawks got fourth quarter goals from Miller, Ryan Welch (Greenwich, Conn.), Austin, and Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, N.J.).
Hartwick outshot Fisher 34-22 in the game.
