Colorado C. Erases 9-0 Deficit, Tops #18 Nazareth in SV
SALISBURY, Md. -- Trailing by nine goals near the end of the first half, the Colorado College women's lacrosse team had Nazareth College just where it wanted.
The Tigers, who have a history of coming from behind to win NCAA Tournament games, staged another monumental comeback to defeat the Golden Flyers 12-11 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon in Salisbury, Md.
Senior midfielder Robin Harvey scored with 17 seconds remaining in sudden-death overtime to lift Colorado College to a regional championship game for the third time in the last four seasons. The Tigers will face No.2 Salisbury University on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the right to advance to the national semifinals. The second-ranked Sea Gulls defeated Washington & Lee University, 10-7, in Saturday's first game.

Colorado College trailed 9-0 before junior attacker Mallory Newton finally put the Tigers on the board with just 1:50 remaining in the first half. Freshman midfielder Kristin Rider scored 1:20 later to cut the Nazareth lead to 9-2 with 30 minutes remaining in the half to give CC another adrenaline boost.
Senior attacker Kate Fitzgerald two of her four goals as the Tigers opened the second half with a 4-0 run, and then added two more after Nazareth scored its only marker of the frame to pull Colorado College to within two points with 2:52 to play.
Newton beat Nazareth’s Mario Fusco on a free-position shot with 2:19 to go, and Harvey knotted the score 20 seconds later to send the game into overtime.
Jennifer Young put the Golden Flyers back in front with two seconds remaining in the first of two three-minute periods in the first overtime, but Harvey would not be denied and tied the game with an unassisted goal with 1:28 to play.
Freshman goaltender Jess Van Doren made a crucial save on Caitlin Zimmer early in the second overtime to set up Harvey's game-winner. Van Doren finished with seven saves to earn her second postseason victory. Fusco finished with 22 saves, including 13 in the first half which allowed Nazareth to build its early lead.
CC out shot Nazareth 46-27 for the game and 30-10 for the second half and overtime period.
Nazareth had five players score two goals apiece; Beth Quartier, Maggie Mullin, Caity Richardson, Nora Davis and Jennifer Young.
Colorado College will meet up with Salisbury for the second time this season. The Tigers are 0-4 all-time against Salisbury and 0-2 in the NCAA Tournament. The Seas Gulls defeated CC, 15-8, in the first round in 2003 and 15-11 in the national semifinals in 2005. Earlier this season, Salisbury rallied from a 3-0 deficit to post an 8-5 victory over CC in Colorado Springs.

SALISBURY, Md.- Colorado College senior Robin Harvey saved her best shot for last as the Tiger midfielder scored her fourth goal of the game to lift CC to a 12-11 sudden victory over No. 18 Nazareth College in the NCAA Division III Regionals held at Salisbury University before a crowd of 286.
The Tigers (11-5) broke their own NCAA championship record for largest comeback, as Colorado College trailed 9-0 in the first half. CC set the record last year at six against Endicott. CC advances to Sunday's NCAA regional final where they will face No. 2 Salisbury who defeated No. 20 Washington & Lee 10-7 in the other regional semifinal.
Nazareth (13-3) jumped out of the gates on fire as it lit up the scoreboard for nine consecutive goals to take a 9-0 lead. The Golden Flyers were powered not only by their offense but their outstanding goalie Maria Fusco, who had 13 first half saves and 22 for the game. The Nazareth shutout ended when Colorado junior Mallory Newton scored her 34th goal of the season with 1:50 left in the first half. Colorado added another goal late in the first half to go into halftime down 9-2.
