Fantl Leads Vassar into ECAC Championship Game
FARMINGDALE, NY (May 12, 2007) -- Senior Al Fantl (West Hartford, CT/William Hall) scored nine goals, including six in the first half, to lead Vassar's women's lacrosse team to an 18-9 victory over Mount St. Vincent in the semifinals of the ECAC Upstate Tournament Saturday afternoon at Farmingdale State.
The Brewers (11-5), who were seeded No. 2, will face No. 1 seed SUNY Brockport in the championship game on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Brockport defeated host Farmingdale, 18-5, in the opening game.
Vassar led 10-4 at halftime and broke out to a commanding 9-1 lead, with Fantl scoring six first half goals. Fantl added two assists in the game, becoming Vassar's single season record holder with 28. In addition, he now has 50 goals for the season, equaling the 50 tallies she had last year, which was a Vassar single sesaon record. She now had 160 goals in her Vassar career. Fantl's nine goals is a team high this season and her 11 total points is also a team high.
The 18 goals tallied against the Dolphins was the fourth time this season the Brewers have reached the 18-goal mark.
For the Brewers, sophomore Christine Eaccarino (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook) had three assists for the Brewers, giving her 20 for the season. Junior goalie Ariel Neslon (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) had seven saves.
Junior Christine Castellan (Media, PA/Penncrest) scored three goals for Vassar.
