Canisius College Women's Lacrosse Signs One to NLI
Canisius College head coach Scott Teeter announced today the addition of Meagan Hurley to the women's lacrosse program. Hurley has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Griffs beginning in the 2009 season.
"Meagan will be a great addition to this program," Teeter said. "She is one of the top defensive players in the area. It is always great to have local talent on your roster. Megan's passion, heart and determination will strengthen her defense and help her be an excellent player."
Hurley has played four years at Amherst High School under the leadership of coach Janet Battaglia. She has posted 89 ground balls and 47 caused turnovers during her career. Hurley has also added three goals, four assists and five draw controls in her tenure. She earned All-WNY honors as a junior and received first-team ECIC accolades. Hurley was named to the ECIC Second Team as a sophomore. She has also excelled off the field, earning NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete honors in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
A defender, Hurley also benefited under the guidance of former Canisius student-athlete, Kristy Grossman. Grossman, who is an assistant coach at Amherst High School, played four years at Canisius and holds two NCAA records. In 1999, she set a single-season record with 4.14 caused turnovers per game and she also owns the career mark in caused turnovers per game with 3.60.
Hurley also played four years of soccer at Amherst High School. She has recorded 15 goals and 12 assists in her career and earned ECIC Division II Second Team accolades following the 2004 season.
The Griffs open the 2008 season on Feb. 15 at Notre Dame. Canisius returns 16 letterwinners from last season, including nine starters.
