Towson Signs Talented Group to National Letters of Intent
TOWSON, Md. – A talented group of seven high school seniors, including five from the State of Maryland, have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Towson University and play women's lacrosse for the Tigers, it has been announced by Coach Missy Doherty.
Joining the Tigers from the State of Maryland are Mary Teeters (Centennial High School), Jackie LaMonica (Hereford High School), Lindsay Kibler (Westminster High School), Katie Cloud (Severna Park High School) and Shannon Kennedy (Severna Park High School). Sarah Appelt (The Hun School of Princeton) and Chelsea Allen (Caesar Rodney High School) round out the recruiting class from New York and Delaware, respectively.
A first team All-Howard County selection in lacrosse, Teeters was also a member of the Eagles' field hockey team and earned first team All-Howard County honors three times.
"Mary is a talented goalie with quick hands and a great clear," Doherty says. "With the loss of Mandy [Corry after this year], she has the opportunity to come in and compete for a starting position right away."
A three-sport athlete at Hereford, LaMonica was a member of the Bulls' county and regional finalist team as a junior. As a member of the indoor track and field team, she finished second in the 1600 meter run at the Maryland state championships and helped the Bulls win the Baltimore County and region championships. LaMonica also was a four-time region champion and a two-time state champion as a member of the Hereford cross country team.
"Jackie has great speed and quickness, which is an asset at the Division I level," says the Tigers' coach. "With her competitiveness and work ethic, she is going to be an impact player."
One of the top scorers in Carroll County last year, Kibler scored 53 goals with 23 assists as a junior for the Owls and earned first team All-Carroll County honors from The Baltimore Sun. An honorable mention all-division player, she also earned second team All-Carroll County notice.
"Lindsay is a tremendous overall athlete who does many things exceptionally well," Doherty says. "With her versatility, she will be great at the midfield."
A three-sport athlete at The Hun School, Appelt served as a team captain for the basketball and lacrosse teams. Named as the Town Topic Top Female Newcomer in lacrosse, she was a first team All-Mid Atlantic Prep League selection and earned first team all-division honors. She was named to the Trentonian All-Prep first team in field hockey.
Doherty says, "Sarah is a fantastic lacrosse player with a great attacking mind. She has the ability to play both midfield and attack and she will give our program a great scoring punch."
As a three-year varsity starter at Caesar Rodney High School, Allen has scored 87 career goals with 72 assists. As a junior, she won the team's sportsmanship award. Allen also was named first team all-conference as a defender on the field hockey team. She was also a member of the swimming and diving team.
"Chelsea has the tools to develop into a great Division I midfielder," says Coach Doherty. "She has great size and speed and provides our program with a great midfield option."
Cloud is a two-sport athlete who has excelled in soccer for the Falcons. She earned first team all-county honors in addition to second team all-state accolades. She was an honorable mention All-Metro pick by The Baltimore Sun.
"Katie brings exceptional skill and hustle to our midfield," says Doherty. "She is a talented left-handed player who will help us to continue to build strength in the midfield."
