Stanford Jumps out Early in Win over UC Davis

STANFORD, Calif. -- Sophomore attacker Claire Hubbard scored a hat trick with an assist to push Stanford to a 13-7 win over UC Davis in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse game at Cagan Stadium Wednesday evening. Seniors Katie McMahon and Katie McGovern each had two goals to lead the Aggies. UC Davis drops to 0-2 overall and in MPSF play. Stanford remains unbeaten at 3-0 and moves to 2-0 in conference.

The Cardinal jumped out to an early lead, collecting goals by Jamie Nesbitt and Megan McClain within the first 2:03 of play. McGovern answered with an eight-meter goal at the 5:30 mark to bring the tally to 2-1, then she and sophomore Olivia Jarem scored back-to-back goals to bring UC Davis to within a 4-3 margin. However, Stanford scored six of the next next seven goals to take a 10-4 lead at the halftime break.

McMahon scored on the initial possession after the halftime break, while freshman Christina Corsa and sophomore Molly Lapolla also had second-half goals as the two teams played a 3-3 tie after intermission. Senior goalkeeper Hilary Harkins posted 10 saves in the Aggie net, including eight in the first half.

UC Davis takes a two-week break from competition before beginning a 20-day, six-game homestand against Mount Saint Mary's on February 28.
