Fontbonne Falls to Ohio Wesleyan in Opener

February 16, 2008 - The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team dropped its 2008 opener today, 13-6, to defending North Coast Atlantic Conference champion Ohio Wesleyan University.

Fontbonne fell behind early after Ohio Wesleyan capitilized on a Griffin three-minute non-releasable stick penalty. The Griffins struggled defensively in the first half and went into halftime trailing 11-4. Fontbonne freshman goalie John Gornik played well in the second half in refilef of Austen Doster. Gornik made six saves and allowed just two goals.

Fontbonne's offensive contributions came from sophomore Brook McGee (Spring, TX) with two goals and one assist, freshman Tanner Bond (Lexington, KY) with two goals, and sophomore Kendall Eckles (Columbia, MO) and freshman Elliott Bender (San Jose, CA) with a goal apiece.

Fontbonne returns to action next week, when they travel to play first-year program Tri-State University and 2007 NCAA tournament qualifier Denison University.
