Longwood Falls to William & Mary in High-Scoring Game
FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University was defeated by William & Mary in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday evening at the Longwood Athletics Complex. The Lancers fall to 0-2 on the season, while William and Mary improves to 2-0. Longwood returns to action on Saturday, February 23 when it takes on Navy at 1:00 p.m. in Annapolis, Md.
The Lancers were led by freshman Kesley Dean/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) who scored four goals, giving her seven goals in the last two games. Junior Britt Farguharson/Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (Lorne Park Secondary) netted a hat-trick for Longwood, while Dee Warehime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster) scored twice.
Despite dropping the decision the young Lancer squad showed promise, outscoring William & Mary in the second half of action 10-9. Longwood headed into half-time down seven goals, 13-6, but were able to jump out of the gate quickly in the second half netting two goals, just one minute apart. The Lancers held possession of the game for the majority of the second half but were unable to muster enough strength to hold off the Tribe of William & Mary.

Farmville, Va. - William and Mary senior Jaime Sellers (Kennebunk, Maine) went off with a career-high eight goals and added an assist to lead the Tribe past Longwood, 22-16, in collegiate women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. Sellers surpassed her previous career mark of five goals, set last year against the same Longwood squad, and added the helper for a career-high nine points.
Freshmen Maggie Anderson (Richmond, Va.) and Grace Golden (Manhasset, N.Y.) recorded identical six-point afternoons, as the pair each scored five goals and added an assist to help lead the Tribe to a 2-0 start. Anderson and Golden have combined for 24 points in the Tribe's two season-opening victories.
Fellow freshman Ashley Holofcener (Reisterstown, Md.) added a goal and an assist, and rookie netminder Emily Geary (Wayne, Pa.) turned away 12 Longwood shots in recording her second victory in goal. Dolly Williams (Richmond, Va.), Katie Rees (Catonsville, Md.) and Mary Zulty (Jarrettsville, Md.) all had goals in the win as well.
