Syracuse, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked Syracuse women's lacrosse team opened the season with a 24-3 victory over Canisius College. The Griffs, who played their second-consecutive top-15 team, fell to 0-2 on the season.

"Our execution today was not nearly the same as it was for the Notre Dame game," said Canisius head coach Scott Teeter. "They out hustled us for all of the 50-50 balls. I did think that Allison Daley played a great game in net."

Juniors Chelsea Martinez (Bethpage, N.Y.), Ashley Gray (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and senior Lauren Walsh (Auburn, N.Y.) each tallied a goal for the Griffs. Walsh also added an assist to post a team-best two points. Freshman Allison Daley (Peterborough, Ontario) recorded a school-record 19 saves in net.

The Orange opened with game's first 12 goals before the Griffs were able to get on the board. Syracuse scored five goals before the Griffs were able to record a shot on goal.

Canisius returns to action against Gannon on March 9 for the Griffs' home opener. Game time at the Demske Sports Center is set for 1 p.m.

Game Notes: Ashley Gray recorded her 98th career point, two shy of becoming the third player in school history to reach 100 points … Senior Erica Nasca (Orchard Park, N.Y.) recorded four draw controls and now holds the school record with 94 career draw controls.
