Royals Defeat Knights in Women's Lacrosse Action

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 21, 2008) – Amanda Mahle (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) led the Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team with six goals in the 16-9 win over St Andrews Presbyterian College (SAPC) on Saturday afternoon at the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. The win gives Queens a 2-0 start for the season and in Conference Carolinas action.

Queens took an early 2-0 when Mahle connected with Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn./Cooper) on both goals. The Knights bounced back with two quick goals from Kerrie Brown. Brown would score four of the five Knight goals in the half.

Caitlin O'Rourke (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) put the Royals back on top in the 19th minute of play off of a pass from Duffey. O'Rourke would add one more goal in the half totaling two for the game. Duffey notched one of her own with an assist coming from Mahle. Like O'Rourke, Duffey netted one more in the half and then contributed two in the second half.

Carolynn Loan (Cazenovia, N.Y./Herkimer CC) netted the sixth Queens goal of the half and her only one of the contest. Knight Alexis Goldman scored the fifth SAPC goal with just 15 seconds remaining in the half to cut the Royals lead down to three, 8-5.

Queens went on a scoring run in the second half scoring eight consecutive goals in just over 10 minutes. Mahle led the charge with four goals and one assist. Kelley Wrightson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) added a single goal, her third of the season.

St. Andrews finished the scoring during the half with four goals in the last 12 minutes of play. Katie Wright tallied two, Brown had one and Kim McDaniel notched the last goal. Queens outshot St. Andrews 36-28 with Duffey leading the Royals with eight. Brown led the Knights with the game high 11.

Royal goalie Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) made 14 saves in the game and Eryn McCaffrey made 12 for the visitors.

Queens will travel to Misenhiemer, N.C., on February 26 to face Pfeiffer University at 3:30 pm.
