Belmont Abbey Rolls Past Lees-McRae in Shutout

BELMONT, NC (February 24, 2008)- Belmont Abbey sophomore attacker Brianna Dignan registered a career-high with six goals, and three others had at least two as the Crusaders women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 with a 17-0 win over visiting Lees-McRae this afternoon. The Bobcats fall to 0-3 overall.

The Abbey outshot the Bobcats 32-2, including 13-0 in the second half, as Dignan scored the first two goals of the game, and later added another on a free position shot. Along with Dignan, Stephanie Schwartz found the back of the net three times, while Kristyn Kinsey and Shannon Farden both scored twice. Tara Chmil, Laurie Jordan, Rhegan Flanigan and Stacey Foley all scored once each. It was Kinsey's, Flanigan's and Foley's first career goals.

Chmil led the way with three assists, while Dignan and Laurie Jordan both had a pair. Kinsey had one. The Crusaders won the draw control battle 16-3 and was successful on all 17 clearing attempts.

Defensively, the Abbey finished with 26 ground balls as Theresa Nolan led the way with six, to go along with four caused turnovers. Flanigan led all players with six caused turnovers, and scooped up four ground balls. Goalkeeper Kate Gavin made only one save.

The Abbey is back in action Tuesday when it goes on the road to face Limestone.
