No. 9 Queens Defeats No. 7 Pfeiffer to Start 3-0
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 26, 2008) – In a battle of the No. 7 Pfeiffer University and No. 9 Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse teams in Misenheimer, N.C., Queens won by a score of 16-11 on Tuesday afternoon. The victory gives Queens a 3-0, overall and Conference Carolinas, start for the 2008 campaign.
Kelly Wrightson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) scored two quick goals to put the Royals up 2-0 in the first five minutes of the game. Pfeiffer (1-2 overall/0-2 Conference Carolinas) answered back with three goals to take the lead 3-2.
The Royal offense kicked into high gear midway through the first half when Carolyn Parsons (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) connected with Carolynn Loan (Cazenovia, N.Y./Herkimer CC) for the game-tying goal. Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn/Cooper) scored the go-ahead goal and Queens would put five more unanswered goals in the Falcon net before halftime.
Heidi Karaszkiewicz tallied two Falcon goals to start the second half making the score 9-5. Duffey and Loan answered the Falcon goals giving Queens a six goal cushion. The two teams would trade goals for the remainder of the half, but Queens was always able to maintain at least a four goal lead. At the final whistle, Queens walked away 3-0 in conference play with the 16-11 win.
Queens scored three free position goals in the game out of 10 attempts and out shot the Falcons 33-24. Loan led the Royals with four goals, Wrightson tallied three and Duffey notched two goals and two assists. Karaszkiewicz led the Falcons with three goals.
Queens will have no rest from top competition as they host Conference Carolinas for and No. 3 Limestone College on Saturday, March 1 at 12:00 pm.
