#9 Georgetown Starts Fast, Downs #17 George Mason
Washington, D.C. – The No. 9 ranked Georgetown University women's lacrosse team raced out to a 9-1 lead for the second straight game and the Hoyas toppled visiting George Mason, 14-7 on a cold and windy afternoon at GU's Multi-Sport Field. The Hoyas improve to 3-0 on the season while No. 17 Mason drops to 1-1.
Georgetown sophomore Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) posted a new career-high with five goals while freshman Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Byrn Mawr School) handed out a career best five assists. Kirr, who also netted two goals for a game-high seven points, assisted on four of Ford's goals. Hoya sophomore goalkeeper Catilin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) tallied a career-high nine saves.
Sophomore Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) finished with two second half goals to go along with a game-high four draw controls. Junior Megan Bloomer (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) recorded a goal and three draws while classmate Jordan Trautman (Mystic, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) notched four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Georgetown raced out to a 5-0 lead and took a 5-1 advantage into halftime. Three of Georgetown's first five goals came immediately after Mason turnovers. Patriot senior Laura King tallied a free position goal with just four ticks left in the half to get Mason on the board.
Georgetown won the first seven draw controls of the second half to dictate the tempo as the Hoyas scored four goals in the opening ten minutes of the second half for the 9-1 lead. The teams would alternate scores the rest of the way.
Mason got a hat trick from King and two goals by freshman midfielder Madalyn Jamison.
Georgetown takes to the road and visits No. 16 Denver (2-2) on Sunday, March 2 in a game that starts at 3:00 p.m. ET.
