Catholic Tops Devils 13-11 in Women's Lax Opener
(Carlisle, PA)- The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team opened the 2008 season with a 13-11 setback at Catholic University on Wednesday afternoon.
The teams traded goals throughout the first half and went into the break tied 7-7. Catholic struck twice in first minute of the second half and pulled in front 13-9 with a 6-2 run.
The Devils answered with a pair of goals at the 5:21 mark and again at 3:07 for the final margin of 13-11.
First-year Sunnie Ko (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) tallied four goals in her collegiate debut to lead the Red Devils. Junior Amy Jennings (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) scored twice and had an assist while classmate Lexie Kob (Collegeville, PA/Springfield) added a pair of goals as well.
Sophomore Alysa Crellin (Little Compton, RI/Posrtsmouth Abbey) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Abby Larson (Easton, MD/Gunston Day School) controlled four ground balls, controlled two draws and caused a pair of turnovers.
Junior Caitlin Kingsley (Katy, TX/Ridgefield) made 13 saves for Dickinson. Melissa Brashear stopped 11 shots for Catholic.
The Red Devils open at home on Saturday, hosting St. Mary's College at 12:00 noon.
