AMHERST, Mass. - No. 16 Boston University used a 6-2 run over the final 15 minutes on Wednesday afternoon to defeat the UMass women's lacrosse team 11-7 at McGuirk Stadium. Katylin McCormick led UMass with three goals, her second hat trick of the season, while Molly Collins of Boston University led all scorers with four goals. UMass tied the game at 5-5 with 19:41 remaining in the game before the Terrier attack went to work. The Minutewomen will return to action on Saturday when they host Harvard at 1 p.m.

The first half was a low scoring affair was the Terriers took a 4-3 lead at the intermission. Boston University (1-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 17 minutes of play. UMass responded scoring three consecutive goals from Holly Drown, Kathleen Typadis and McCormick to pull within one, 4-3.

The Terriers scored an early second half goal, before UMass scored twice more to tie the game at 5-5. After a Boston University timeout, the Terriers scored twice within a 20 second span. Melynda Zwick scored to pull UMass back within one, 7-6, but BU responded with three straight goals.

After Molly Collins' third goal of the game gave the Terriers a 10-6 with 10:14, BU ran out much of the clock. McCormick was able to score again with just over three minutes to go, but Collins answered to give the final 11-7 goal.

Boston University outshot UMass 29-to-24, but UMass held the advantage in groundballs, caused turnovers, and draw controls. Krissy Anderson made 10 saves for UMass, while Rachel Klein also made 10 saves.
